The collection contains materials about Crispus Attucks High School and its third principal, Russell A. Lane. Included are correspondence, news clippings, a funeral program, programs and a yearbook from the school, a paper bound copy of a dissertation about Lane, photos, and artifacts. News clippings relate to Lane, school staff and alumni, the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, and the 1986 closing of the school.

Born in Baltimore, Md., Lane graduated from Brown University in 1921. He studied law at Howard University and education in Germany before moving to Indianapolis in 1927, where he taught at the newly opened Crispus Attucks High School. He served as principal of Attucks from 1930-1957, then was assistant to the superintendent of Indianapolis Public Schools.
